In 2000, a unique and innovative project began in South Sudan, while the country was embroiled in a devastating two-generation long civil war that displaced and ravaged millions. In the face of conflict, a group of women began a “for-profit” business, which enabled them to not only transcend the brutalities of war, but also to plant the seeds for a foundation of peace within their homes, communities and country.

There Once Was A Flip Flop…
UniquEco–a Kenyan-based organization–is one of the most ingenious and creative recycling projects around. Flip flops, plastics and old tires litter the east African coastline (see picture on left). Africa: Obama’s Call to Action
President Obama’s recent address to Ghana’s parliament in Accra was a call to action for all of Africa. “…I do not see the countries and peoples of Africa as a world apart; I see Africa as a fundamental part of our interconnected world … as partners with America on behalf of the future we want for all of our children.
